Kalakshethra korvai Kanchi

Fanta Orange Korvai Kalakshethra

This one is from.the good old nineties and smacks of long trips in the hot and humid Chennai sun, the years we sometimes visited Chennai to pickup a cousin, who studied at Kalakshethra...the heat, the heritage buildings, marina and Kalakshethra remain as fresh memories.

Kalakshethra had such beautiful sarees even in those days ..such lovely thick Kanchis, retta pettai borders and such interesting shocking colour combos, being an educational institution, they had to keep costs down, and so the replacing zari as much as possible with resham.

Most people think Fanta orange and Paneer Roja is a combo that's soo 2010s but hey this one is from way back in 1994 and oh so fresh and vibrant still ❤️

Tangible memories

A 'Dusty Rose' colour Kanchi with single side border.

During
my childhood in Kerala, there were these weavers who would visit us before Onam, carrying sarees. This was a big occasion for the women at home, as silk sarees were expensive and we mostly bought mundum neriyathum (the two piece Kerala 'saree') from.shops...these weavers brought select but jewel coloured sarees, not very expensive and the ladies at home would stock up on these...wearing my mom's 35 year old Kancheepuram silk saree bought from such a weaver...it's nothing fancy, no korvai and it's single border with thread work, but I truly love the dusty rose colour of the saree (it's a dual tone) and the orangish red border, choli is a simple one that somehow matches with this one
